What Is AdBlue OFF?
AdBlue OFF refers to a modification of the relevant functions in the engine ECU software associated with the SCR/AdBlue system.
SCR systems using AdBlue are widely used in modern diesel vehicles. They are especially common in vehicles produced from around 2017 onwards, although many passenger cars and commercial vehicles manufactured earlier were also equipped with AdBlue.
There is no single programming method that works for every vehicle. The correct procedure depends on the ECU manufacturer, ECU family, hardware version, software version and vehicle configuration.
For this reason, identifying the exact engine ECU is an important part of assessing an AdBlue-related service.
AdBlue Fault – Common Problems Reported by Drivers
Customers often contact us when the vehicle begins displaying SCR or AdBlue warnings on the dashboard.
Common AdBlue problems include:
- AdBlue system fault,
- SCR system fault,
- AdBlue warning light,
- Check Engine light together with an AdBlue warning,
- AdBlue warning still on after refill,
- AdBlue message does not disappear after topping up,
- NOx sensor fault,
- no communication with NOx sensor,
- AdBlue pump fault,
- AdBlue injector or dosing unit problem,
- SCR pressure fault,
- reduced engine power or limp mode,
- AdBlue countdown to engine no-start,
- vehicle cannot be restarted.
Engine ECU during diagnostics and programming. The exact service procedure depends on the ECU model, hardware and software version.
Do you have an AdBlue fault?
Send us a photo of the dashboard message or diagnostic scan. If a fault code is visible, include the full DTC number.
AdBlue Countdown – “Engine Will Not Restart in 500 Miles / 800 km”
One of the most serious AdBlue-related warnings is a countdown to the point at which the engine can no longer be restarted.
The exact message varies depending on the vehicle manufacturer. Drivers commonly search for phrases such as:
- AdBlue no start in 500 miles,
- AdBlue no restart in 800 km,
- engine will not start in 1000 km,
- AdBlue countdown warning,
- SCR fault no restart,
- AdBlue start prevented,
- AdBlue no restart after refill,
- AdBlue warning after topping up,
- AdBlue countdown still active after refill.
Simply refilling the AdBlue tank does not always solve the problem. The cause may be a NOx sensor, AdBlue pump, injector, wiring fault, SCR pressure problem or another system fault stored in the ECU.
Is your vehicle counting down because of an AdBlue fault?
Contact us before the countdown reaches zero. Send the make, model, year, engine and diagnostic fault codes.

NOx Sensor Fault and AdBlue Problems
NOx sensors are an important part of the SCR system. A faulty sensor or loss of communication with its control module can trigger emission-related faults, the Check Engine light and AdBlue/SCR warnings.
Common customer reports include:
- NOx fault after replacing the sensor,
- NO communication with NOx sensor,
- NOx sensor fault returns after clearing,
- Check Engine and AdBlue warning together,
- AdBlue countdown despite the tank being full.
Have you replaced the NOx sensor but the fault is still present? Send us the diagnostic codes and vehicle details so we can check your specific case.
VW T6 – U029E00 “NOx Sensor 2 – No Communication”
A real example of an SCR system problem is a Volkswagen Transporter T6 we diagnosed. The ECU stored an active communication fault relating to the second NOx sensor.
Real VW T6 diagnostic example: U029E00 – NOx Sensor 2, no communication.
U029E00 – NOx Sensor 2, No Communication
This is a good example of a situation where the driver may initially describe the issue simply as an AdBlue problem on a VW T6, while the diagnostic scan provides a more precise direction – no communication with NOx sensor 2.
Do you have a VW T6 with an NOx fault, SCR warning or AdBlue countdown? Send us a photo of the diagnostic screen together with the vehicle details.
AdBlue OFF – Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer, Citroën Jumper and Iveco Daily
A significant number of the vehicles we work with are commercial vans and light commercial vehicles.
AdBlue problems are particularly common in vehicles covering high annual mileage, including:
| Vehicle | Common AdBlue / SCR problems |

BMW AdBlue OFF – Bosch EDC17CP45 and Other BMW DDE ECUs
We also work with BMW diesel vehicles equipped with SCR/AdBlue systems.
Our experience includes Bosch EDC17CP45 and other BMW DDE engine control units.
For BMW vehicles, our services are not limited to ECU programming. We also offer BMW engine ECU repair and tested replacement engine control units.
One problem found in some BMW diesel vehicles is diesel fuel travelling through the wiring and entering the engine ECU connector. This can lead to communication faults and eventually damage the ECU.
BMW AdBlue, SCR, NOx or DDE ECU problem? Send us the ECU part number together with a photo of the diagnostic results.
How Much Does AdBlue OFF Cost?
The price depends on the vehicle and the exact engine ECU. There is no single price for all controllers because older and newer ECUs use different security systems, reading methods and programming procedures.
