Flooded SID208 ECU – what to do?
The Continental SID208 engine control unit is fitted to selected Peugeot Boxer and Citroën Jumper 2.2 HDi versions. Once water gets inside, the electronics corrode, short circuits appear and the van can suddenly stop. A new unit is not always the only option.
Symptoms of a damaged SID208
- the engine does not start or stalls,
- no diagnostic communication with the ECU,
- CAN faults and limp mode,
- traces of water or corrosion on the connector and housing.
What to do first
- do not keep trying to start the engine,
- disconnect the battery and unplug the ECU connector,
- find out how the water got in and fix the cause,
- check the wiring, earths and fuses.
The same symptoms can be caused by the wiring, power supply or BSI – run diagnostics before you buy.
Repair, cloning or a replacement unit?
- repair – when the damage to the electronics is limited,
- cloning – when the data of the old ECU can be read and transferred to a working unit,

Our SID208 VIRGIN Plug & Play units
We offer SID208 units prepared as VIRGIN Plug & Play. On first start-up a matching unit reads the immobiliser data from the BSI or BCM, so it does not need to be coded to the immobiliser. Depending on the equipment, telecoding may be needed, e.g. for air conditioning, cruise control or Start-Stop. The numbers on the label must match your ECU. What about the Fiat Ducato?
The SID208 units we offer do not fit the Fiat Ducato. Units for the Ducato are in the Fiat engine control units category.
How to prevent flooding
- clean the water drains around the ECU regularly,
- check the seals, the housing and the connector,
- after flooding, dry the connector and check the ECU as soon as possible.
