Chrysler 300C 3.0 CRD engine ECU
The current range includes the P05149124AD / Bosch 0281013903 engine ECU for Chrysler 300C 3.0 CRD. The module may also carry the shortened marking 124AD.
This is a tested, remanufactured controller supplied cleared and ready for programming. It is not described as a Plug & Play ECU. After installation, it must be programmed and assigned to the compatible vehicle using the appropriate diagnostic procedure.

How to select the correct Chrysler ECU
The replacement engine controller should be selected using all references printed on the original ECU label. The Chrysler model, year and engine capacity are useful identification details, but they are not sufficient on their own.
Before purchasing, compare:
- the complete Chrysler or Mopar OEM number,
- the Bosch, Continental, Siemens or Motorola reference,
- hardware and software identifiers,
- engine capacity, power output and engine code,
- petrol or diesel fuel system,
- emissions standard and market specification,
- manual or automatic transmission configuration,
- immobiliser system and ECU preparation method.
The VIN helps identify the vehicle but does not replace the references taken directly from the original controller. A similar casing, connector or shortened number does not confirm compatibility.
Chrysler and Mopar ECU part numbers
Chrysler engine controllers can carry several identification numbers. A Mopar number may begin with the letter P and end with a revision suffix such as AA, AB, AC or AD. The manufacturer may also add a separate Bosch, Siemens, Continental or Motorola reference.
The revision suffix can identify a hardware or software update. It should not be ignored when selecting a replacement. Some numbers may have approved supersessions, but compatibility should be confirmed before ordering rather than assumed from the first digits alone.
Cleared Chrysler ECU – ready for programming
A controller described as cleared and ready for programming has been prepared so that it can be assigned to a compatible vehicle. It is not necessarily ready to start the engine immediately after connection.
Depending on the Chrysler model and ECU family, installation may require:
- loading the appropriate engine software or calibration,
- writing or confirming the VIN,
- immobiliser or start-authorisation adaptation,
- configuration of the engine and automatic transmission variant,
- injector coding or other engine adaptations,
- clearing fault codes and completing post-installation checks.
Programming should be completed using suitable diagnostic equipment while the vehicle is connected to a stable battery support unit. Interrupting the programming procedure can corrupt the ECU software.
Chrysler ECU Virgin, Plug & Play and cloning
Replacement Chrysler ECUs may be offered using different preparation methods. The status shown in the individual product description determines what must be done after installation:
- Cleared or Virgin – previous vehicle data has been removed and the controller requires assignment or programming.
- Ready for programming – the ECU must be programmed with the correct vehicle data and software after installation.
- Plug & Play – the module has been prepared for a specified vehicle or installation procedure.
- Cloned ECU – compatible data has been transferred from the original controller to a replacement unit.
- IMMO OFF – immobiliser authorisation has been disabled in a compatible controller where technically available.
These terms describe different preparation methods and should not be treated as interchangeable. Always check the selected product page before fitting the ECU.
Can a Chrysler ECU be cloned?
Cloning may be possible if the original controller still allows the required memory data to be read. Depending on the ECU family, the transferred information may include EEPROM, FLASH or processor data.
A correctly completed clone can preserve the VIN, immobiliser information, engine software and powertrain configuration. However, the replacement ECU must still be compatible at hardware level. Copying data cannot make an unrelated controller suitable for the vehicle.
If the original ECU has severe water damage, burnt circuitry or processor failure, a complete read may not be possible. In this situation, a cleared or Virgin replacement programmed directly in the vehicle may be the appropriate alternative.
Chrysler ECU and automatic transmission compatibility
In vehicles such as the Chrysler 300C, the engine controller communicates continuously with the automatic transmission controller, immobiliser and other modules over the CAN network. Incorrect engine or gearbox configuration may cause communication faults, limp mode or starting problems.
The transmission type and software variant should therefore be checked before programming a replacement ECU. Matching the Mopar and Bosch numbers remains the safest starting point.
Common symptoms of a faulty Chrysler ECU
- the engine cranks but does not start,
- intermittent starting or unexpected stalling,
- no diagnostic communication with the engine controller,
- limp mode and reduced engine power,
- injector, glow-plug, ignition or turbocharger faults,
- immobiliser or start-authorisation errors,
- CAN communication faults between the ECU and transmission controller,
- problems following water ingress, a short circuit or voltage surge,
- a no-start condition after interrupted ECU programming.
These symptoms do not prove that the ECU itself is defective. Similar faults can result from damaged wiring, poor earth connections, fuses, relays, sensors, injectors, low fuel pressure, battery voltage or another control module. The vehicle should be diagnosed correctly before a replacement ECU is purchased.

Does a replacement Chrysler ECU need identical numbers?
The safest option is a controller with the same complete Mopar and manufacturer references. Some numbers may have compatible supersessions, but the hardware, software, engine and transmission configuration must be verified.
Is the P05149124AD / 0281013903 ECU Plug & Play?
No. The current Chrysler 300C 3.0 CRD controller is supplied cleared and ready for programming. It must be correctly programmed and assigned to the compatible vehicle after installation.
Will a standard used Chrysler ECU work after connection?
Usually not. A standard used controller normally retains the VIN, immobiliser information and configuration of its previous vehicle. It may require clearing, programming, cloning or another compatible preparation method.
What does the AD suffix in a Mopar number mean?
The final letters identify the part revision. They can relate to hardware, software or an updated version of the controller. The suffix should be checked when selecting a replacement ECU.
Can a Chrysler 300C engine ECU be cloned?
Cloning may be possible if the required memory data can still be read from the original ECU and a compatible replacement is available. Severe electronic damage may prevent a complete read.
Does a cleared Chrysler ECU program itself?

Can an incorrect ECU cause automatic transmission faults?
