Nissan engine ECU – original tested controllers
A Nissan engine control unit, also known as an ECU, ECM or engine computer, manages fuel injection, ignition, turbocharger operation, exhaust emissions and engine torque. It also communicates with the Nissan immobiliser system, instrument cluster, transmission controller and other electronic modules over the CAN network.
ECUSale supplies original tested engine controllers for Nissan petrol and diesel vehicles. The category is intended for models including the Nissan X-Trail, Qashqai, Juke, Navara, Micra, Note, Pathfinder, Almera and Primera. Availability depends on the complete Nissan part number, ECU manufacturer, engine version and software configuration.
Not sure which Nissan ECU is compatible?
Send us a clear photograph of the complete label on your original engine controller together with the vehicle VIN. We will check the Nissan and manufacturer references and help determine whether the replacement requires programming, NATS adaptation or cloning.

Nissan X-Trail T31 2.0 dCi engine ECU
The current range includes the Nissan X-Trail T31 2.0 dCi ECU with numbers 23710-3UH7B and Bosch 0281030468. This tested controller is intended for a compatible 2.0 dCi diesel engine configuration.
The offered module requires programming after installation or can be prepared by transferring data from the original ECU. It should not be treated as Plug & Play unless cloning has been completed using valid data from the vehicle’s original controller.
Programming Bosch 0281030468 / Nissan 23710-3UH7B
A standard replacement Bosch 0281030468 controller contains configuration and security information that may not match another vehicle. To install it in a compatible Nissan X-Trail, the workshop must perform the required programming and immobiliser adaptation or transfer the original ECU data to the replacement module.
When cloning is possible, the copied information can include:
- NATS immobiliser data,
- vehicle identification number,
- engine software and calibration,
- hardware-specific configuration,
- vehicle and gearbox parameters.
The original ECU must provide a complete and reliable memory read. The replacement controller must also have compatible hardware and software architecture.

Nissan ECU and the NATS immobiliser
Many Nissan vehicles use the Nissan Anti-Theft System, commonly known as NATS. The engine controller must exchange the correct authorisation data with the immobiliser and other security-related modules before the engine can start.
A standard used Nissan ECU normally retains information from the donor vehicle. Simply connecting it to another car may result in a no-start condition, an immobiliser warning or stored communication faults.
Depending on the ECU family and vehicle generation, replacement options may include:
- programming and adaptation to the vehicle and NATS system,
- cloning data from the original ECU,
- VIRGIN preparation followed by programming or adaptation,
- IMMO OFF where this solution is technically supported,
- Plug & Play preparation for a specific vehicle.
Not every Nissan ECU supports all these preparation methods. The available option must be confirmed for the exact controller number.
Nissan ECU cloning
Cloning a Nissan ECU means reading vehicle-specific information from the original controller and transferring it to compatible replacement hardware. When a complete read is possible, cloning can preserve the immobiliser data, VIN, engine software and configuration.
The procedure may reduce the amount of programming required after installation, but successful cloning depends on the condition of the original ECU. Severe water damage, processor failure, short circuits or corrupted memory can prevent a reliable data transfer.
A module with identical connectors is not automatically a suitable cloning donor. The hardware family, memory layout and processor type must also be compatible.
Nissan and Renault engine controller compatibility
Some Nissan and Renault vehicles share engines, electronic platforms or ECU families developed within the Renault–Nissan alliance. However, this does not mean that controllers from the two brands are automatically interchangeable.
Even when the engine type and ECU casing appear identical, there may be differences in:
- manufacturer and OEM part numbers,
- engine calibration,
- immobiliser and security data,
- CAN communication configuration,
- gearbox type and vehicle equipment,
- emissions and exhaust system programming.
If you are searching for a controller used on a related Renault platform, you can also check our range of Renault ECU engine controllers. Compatibility must still be confirmed from the complete part numbers and software specification.
How to choose the correct Nissan engine controller
The most reliable basis for selecting a replacement is the complete label on the original Nissan ECU. The vehicle model, production year and engine capacity help narrow the search, but they are not sufficient on their own.
Before ordering, compare:
- the complete Nissan OEM part number,
- the Bosch, Delphi, Continental or other manufacturer reference,
- hardware and software numbers,
- engine code, capacity and power output,
- petrol or diesel fuel system,
- manual, automatic or CVT transmission configuration,
- emissions standard and exhaust equipment,
- vehicle equipment and CAN configuration,
- the required programming or preparation method.
The VIN is helpful when identifying the vehicle, but it does not replace the numbers printed on the ECU label. Two controllers used in the same Nissan model may contain different hardware or software.
Bosch, Delphi and Continental Nissan ECUs
Nissan vehicles can use engine controllers made by several manufacturers. Always compare both the Nissan OEM number and the reference assigned by the ECU manufacturer.

A manufacturer family or a partial reference does not confirm compatibility. Always check the complete sequence of letters and numbers.
Common symptoms of a faulty Nissan ECU
- the engine does not start or starts intermittently,
- the engine stalls while driving,
- there is no communication with the ECU during diagnostics,
- the Check Engine warning remains illuminated,
- the vehicle enters limp mode or loses power,
- injector, ignition, fuel-pressure or turbocharger errors are stored,
- NATS immobiliser or CAN communication faults appear,
- the engine runs roughly or responds incorrectly to the accelerator,
- faults occur following water ingress, corrosion or a voltage surge,
- the engine no longer starts after interrupted programming.
These symptoms do not automatically prove that the engine controller is faulty. Before replacing the ECU, check the battery, power supply, earth connections, fuses, relays, wiring, sensors, fuel system and CAN network.
A defective sensor, damaged wiring or missing power supply can imitate an ECU fault. An unresolved electrical problem may also damage the replacement controller.
Water-damaged Nissan ECU – repair or replacement?
Moisture inside the controller or its connector can cause corrosion, short circuits and intermittent communication. If the old ECU still allows a complete memory read, its information may sometimes be transferred to a compatible replacement module.
When the damage is too severe for cloning, another tested controller may need to be programmed or prepared using a method supported by that ECU family. Before installing it, the source of the water ingress must be located and repaired.
