BMW FEM Module 9383178 / 61.35-9383178-01 with Two Keys

The offered BMW FEM module 9383178 is supplied as a set with the two keys shown in the photo. The FEM (Front Electronic Module) controls numerous body functions and also works with the vehicle access and start authorisation system. Before installation, a used module must be correctly matched and prepared for the specific vehicle.

BMW FEM Module Applications

FEM modules of this generation were used in selected BMW F-Series vehicles, mainly in the following model families:

  • BMW 1 Series F20 / F21 – 3- and 5-door hatchback, selected petrol and diesel versions,
  • BMW 2 Series F22 / F23 – Coupé and Convertible, selected engine versions,
  • BMW 3 Series F30 / F31 – Saloon and Touring, selected petrol and diesel versions,
  • BMW 3 Series F34 GT – Gran Turismo, selected versions,
  • BMW 4 Series F32 / F33 / F36 – Coupé, Convertible and Gran Coupé, selected engine versions.

The FEM family was used in vehicles equipped with 1.5, 1.6, 2.0 and 3.0 engines, among others. However, engine capacity alone does not confirm module compatibility. Individual vehicles may differ in equipment, electronics version and FEM configuration.

Before purchasing, compare the identification details on the original module. For this part, BMW number 9383178 and the FEM variant shown on the label are particularly important. The module should not be selected solely by vehicle model, production year or engine size.

Common Symptoms of a Faulty FEM Module

A faulty FEM can affect a wide range of vehicle functions. Depending on the type of failure, symptoms may include:

  • inability to switch on the ignition or start the vehicle,
  • problems with key recognition,
  • incorrect operation of the central locking system,
  • problems with lighting or other body functions,
  • intermittent loss of selected electrical functions,
  • communication faults with the FEM during diagnostics.

Similar symptoms may also be caused by wiring faults, power supply problems or other vehicle modules, so proper diagnostics are recommended before replacing the FEM.

FEM Cloning, Programming and Preparation

A used BMW FEM 596316F00 should not be treated as a Plug & Play part without prior preparation. The module contains data related to the vehicle configuration and start authorisation system.

  • if the original FEM can be read, the required data can be transferred or cloned to the replacement module,
  • depending on the preparation method, FEM programming and coding may be required,
  • the module must be correctly matched to the configuration of the specific BMW,
  • the keys and start authorisation system must correspond with the data stored in the vehicle,
  • the preparation method is determined based on the original FEM and the vehicle configuration.

If you still have the original module, we recommend sending a clear photo of its identification label. This allows compatibility to be checked and the correct preparation method to be determined before installation.

Frequently Asked Questions – BMW FEM 9383178

Does BMW FEM 9383178 fit a BMW F30 2.0?

FEM modules from this family were used in selected BMW 3 Series F30 vehicles, including models with 2.0 engines. However, the engine version alone does not confirm compatibility. Before purchasing, the identification details and configuration of the original FEM should be checked.

Can BMW FEM 596316F00 be installed in a 1 Series F20 or F21?

FEM modules were used in the BMW 1 Series F20 and F21, but they are available in different variants depending on equipment and production year. The identification details on the original module should therefore be checked before installation.

Does a BMW 61.35-9383178-01 module from another vehicle need programming?

A used FEM taken from another vehicle requires proper preparation. Depending on the individual case, data cloning, programming, coding or synchronisation with the vehicle system may be required.

Does FEM 9383178 fit the BMW 4 Series F32 or F36?

The FEM module family was used in selected BMW 4 Series F32 Coupé and F36 Gran Coupé models. However, compatibility should not be determined solely by the vehicle model – the original part number and module variant must be compared.

Can a faulty BMW FEM 9383178 module be cloned?

If the required data can still be read correctly from the original FEM, a replacement module can be prepared by transferring that data. In the case of severe damage, the feasibility of cloning must be assessed after inspecting the original module.
