How to choose a Honda engine control unit

Compare the Honda number and the Bosch number with the label on your unit. The same Honda number may come with different Bosch numbers – e.g. 37820-R06-E15 with 0281013407 and 0281013633 – and several software versions were used within one model. The VIN helps confirm the vehicle version but does not replace the label numbers. If in doubt, send us a photo of the label.

Programming after fitting

  • VIRGIN for programming – the unit is cleared, but after fitting it must be paired with the car using a diagnostic tool (immobiliser, VIN, configuration),
  • cloning – instead of programming, the data from the old unit (flash and EEPROM) can be transferred, if it can be read.

According to the product descriptions, the Honda units in stock are cleared and need programming after fitting – e.g. with Honda HDS or another tool that supports Honda ECU coding. For the CR-V III 2.0 i-VTEC unit, cloning the data from the old module is also possible.

Symptoms of a faulty engine control unit

  • the engine does not start although the starter and fuel supply work,
  • no communication with the engine control unit in diagnostics,
  • limp mode, sudden stalling or injection faults with no faulty sensors,
  • traces of moisture or corrosion on the connector or the housing.
