Iveco engine ECU – controllers for vans and trucks

An Iveco engine control unit, also known as an ECU, ECM or engine computer, manages fuel injection, turbocharger operation, engine torque, exhaust emissions and communication with the immobiliser and other electronic modules. Its correct operation is particularly important in commercial vehicles, where an electronic fault can immobilise the vehicle and interrupt scheduled work or transport.

ECUSale supplies original engine controllers for the Iveco Daily, Eurocargo, Stralis, S-Way and other commercial vehicles equipped with diesel or CNG engines. Our range includes tested used modules, new controllers and selected ECUs prepared as IMMO OFF Plug & Play.

Not sure which Iveco ECU is compatible?

Send us a clear photograph of the complete label on your original controller together with the vehicle VIN. We will check the Iveco and manufacturer numbers and help determine whether you need IMMO OFF, a new controller, programming or cloning.

Send your Iveco ECU numbers

Iveco Daily ECU IMMO OFF Plug & Play

A large part of our range consists of Iveco Daily engine controllers prepared with IMMO OFF. In a compatible ECU, this preparation disables standard immobiliser authorisation and can allow the engine to start without synchronising the replacement controller with the vehicle’s immobiliser.

Available examples include:

IMMO OFF does not make different ECU numbers interchangeable. The replacement module must still be compatible with the engine, injection system, emissions standard and vehicle software. Always compare the complete OEM and Bosch references before purchasing.

What does IMMO OFF mean in an Iveco Daily ECU?

An ECU prepared as IMMO OFF has its immobiliser authorisation function disabled. This can simplify replacement when the original controller, key authorisation system or synchronisation data is damaged.

Depending on the vehicle and ECU generation, a warning or diagnostic trouble code associated with the immobiliser may remain stored in another module. This does not necessarily indicate an ECU fault if the engine starts and operates correctly. The exact product description should always be checked before installation.

Looking for an Iveco Daily 3.0 IMMO OFF ECU?

Iveco Daily 3.0 vehicles use several controller generations. Compare the complete Iveco number, Bosch reference and connector layout rather than choosing the ECU by engine capacity alone.

Iveco Stralis and Eurocargo engine controllers

The category also includes engine controllers for heavier Iveco commercial vehicles. Depending on the model, year, engine and emissions standard, Eurocargo and Stralis vehicles may use different Bosch ECU families and software configurations.

Selected controllers in our range include:

A new ECU is not necessarily ready to start the engine immediately after connection. Depending on the controller, it may require the correct software, parameter configuration, VIN entry, immobiliser adaptation or programming with suitable Iveco diagnostic equipment.

Iveco Stralis Natural Power CNG ECU

Iveco also uses dedicated controllers in vehicles powered by compressed natural gas. One example is the 5801971305 Metatron 4100314 FPT CNG engine controller for Iveco Stralis Euro 6.

This module is intended for compatible Stralis Natural Power configurations. It manages CNG injection, combustion parameters, engine torque, emissions monitoring and communication with other vehicle systems. Compatibility must be confirmed using the complete 5801971305 and Metatron 4100314 references together with the vehicle configuration.

You can also browse our range of FPT engine controllers and automotive electronics.

Iveco Daily, Eurocargo and S-Way Bosch ECU

Newer Iveco vehicles can use Bosch EDC17 and MD1-generation engine controllers. Similar-looking modules may be installed in the Daily, Eurocargo and S-Way but contain different software, engine calibration and emissions configuration.

When searching for an Iveco Daily 3.0 EDC17 ECU or an Iveco S-Way engine controller, compare the complete Bosch number beginning with 0281 and the Iveco OEM number beginning with 504 or 580. You can also view the wider selection of Bosch ECU engine controllers.

How to choose the correct Iveco engine ECU

The correct controller should be identified using all numbers printed on the original ECU label. Iveco used many hardware and software variants within the same model and engine capacity, so a match based only on “Iveco Daily 3.0” or “Iveco Stralis Cursor” is not sufficient.

Before ordering, compare:

  • the complete Iveco OEM number,
  • the Bosch, FPT or Metatron manufacturer reference,
  • the ECU hardware and software version,
  • the exact engine type, capacity and power output,
  • the HPI, HPT, Cursor or CNG engine specification,
  • the emissions standard, including Euro 5 or Euro 6,
  • the manual or automatic transmission configuration,
  • the installed equipment and vehicle application,
  • the required preparation: IMMO OFF, new, programmable or cloned.

The VIN helps identify the vehicle, but it does not replace the numbers from the ECU label. The same Iveco model may have been fitted with several different controllers during one production period.

Iveco ECU programming and adaptation

A standard used engine controller normally retains information from the donor vehicle. This may include the VIN, immobiliser data, engine configuration and software calibration. Installing it without suitable preparation can cause a no-start condition, configuration faults or communication errors.

Depending on the ECU type, the replacement may require:

  • programming with the correct engine software,
  • VIN and vehicle configuration entry,
  • immobiliser synchronisation,
  • injector coding or engine adaptations,
  • parameter configuration using Iveco-compatible diagnostics,
  • cloning from the original engine controller.

Before fitting a new or standard used ECU, read the individual product description to determine which programming operations are required. Stable battery voltage should be maintained throughout diagnostic programming.

Iveco ECU cloning

Cloning involves transferring data from the original engine controller to a compatible replacement module. Depending on the ECU family, this can include EEPROM, FLASH and processor memory containing the immobiliser information, VIN, engine software and configuration.

If the original ECU can still be read correctly and the replacement hardware is compatible, a cloned controller may reduce the need for additional adaptation in the vehicle. However, cloning is not possible in every case, particularly when water, a short circuit or processor damage prevents a complete and reliable memory read.

The donor controller should have a compatible hardware version. Matching plugs or a similar casing do not confirm that two Iveco ECUs can be cloned successfully.

Water-damaged Iveco Daily ECU

Engine controllers installed in commercial vehicles can be exposed to water, road contamination, temperature changes and vibration. Moisture inside the ECU or its connector may cause corrosion, short circuits, intermittent communication and permanent damage to internal components.

Possible symptoms of a water-damaged Iveco ECU include:

  • intermittent or complete failure to start,
  • no communication with diagnostic equipment,
  • multiple unrelated sensor or injector errors,
  • engine stalling during operation,
  • visible moisture or corrosion in the connector,
  • faults that appear after rain or washing the vehicle.

Before installing a replacement controller, the source of the water ingress must be located and repaired. Fitting another ECU without resolving the leak may damage the replacement module.

Common symptoms of a faulty Iveco ECU

  • the engine does not start or starts intermittently,
  • the vehicle stalls while driving,
  • there is no communication with the engine controller,
  • the EDC or Check Engine warning remains illuminated,
  • the engine enters limp mode or has limited power,
  • injector, fuel-pressure or turbocharger errors are recorded,
  • immobiliser or CAN communication faults appear,
  • the engine runs roughly or responds incorrectly to the accelerator,
  • the ECU has been damaged following a short circuit or voltage surge.

These symptoms do not automatically prove that the ECU is defective. Before replacing it, check the battery condition, power supply, earth connections, fuses, relays, wiring, fuel system, sensors and CAN network. A supply or wiring fault can imitate an ECU failure and may also damage a replacement controller.

Iveco ECU and Body Computer faults

The engine ECU communicates with the Body Computer, immobiliser, instrument cluster, gearbox and other modules over the vehicle network. A no-start condition or CAN communication error may therefore originate outside the engine controller.

If diagnostics indicate a fault in the body electronics, central locking, lighting, power distribution or immobiliser communication, see our range of Iveco BCM and Body Computer modules.

FAQ – Iveco ECU engine controllers

Does an Iveco ECU need to have identical part numbers?

The safest option is a controller with the same Iveco OEM number and compatible Bosch, FPT or Metatron reference. Some numbers may have recognised replacements, but compatibility must be confirmed before ordering.

Will a used Iveco ECU work immediately after installation?

A standard used controller normally contains information from the donor vehicle and may require programming, immobiliser adaptation or cloning. Only a product explicitly described as IMMO OFF Plug & Play should be treated as prepared in that way.

Which ECU fits an Iveco Daily 3.0 HPI or HPT?

The correct ECU depends on the production year, engine version, emissions standard and original part numbers. Examples include Bosch 0281011228, 0281012193, 0281018453 and 0281020149, but these controllers are not automatically interchangeable.

What does IMMO OFF mean in an Iveco Daily ECU?

IMMO OFF means that immobiliser authorisation has been disabled in a compatible engine controller. The ECU must still match the vehicle’s engine, hardware and software configuration.

Does a new Iveco Stralis or Eurocargo ECU require programming?

It may require the correct software, VIN entry, configuration and adaptation before use. The necessary procedure depends on the exact controller and vehicle, so check the individual product description before installation.

Can an Iveco ECU damaged by water be cloned?

If the original controller’s memory can still be read completely, its data may be transferred to compatible replacement hardware. If corrosion or processor damage prevents a reliable read, another preparation method may be required.

Which controller is used in Iveco Stralis Natural Power CNG?

Selected Stralis Euro 6 Natural Power vehicles use the 5801971305 Metatron 4100314 controller. Compatibility should be confirmed using the complete part numbers and vehicle configuration.

What information should I send before buying an Iveco ECU?

Send a clear photograph of the complete ECU label, VIN, Iveco model, production year, engine capacity and power, emissions standard, gearbox type and diagnostic trouble codes.
