Disabling the immobiliser function in the ECU means that normal synchronisation with the vehicle’s immobiliser system is not required. The controller must nevertheless have the correct hardware and software for the engine and vehicle configuration.

The 0261S07018 / 03C906027BD Bosch MED17.5.5 engine controller is used in selected 1.4 TSI applications within the Volkswagen Group. The offered module is prepared as IMMO OFF and Plug & Play.
Because controllers carrying Volkswagen Group numbers may appear in Skoda, Volkswagen, Audi and SEAT vehicles, the make and engine size are not sufficient for selection. Check the complete VAG number, Bosch number, software version and engine code before ordering.

Another available option is the 0281016374 / 03L907309N Bosch EDC17C46 ECU. This controller is listed for selected Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and Skoda applications and is prepared as IMMO OFF and Plug & Play.
The shared part number does not mean that every EDC17C46 can be installed in every compatible-looking vehicle. The software, engine version, emissions equipment, gearbox and other configuration data must also be suitable.

Skoda ECU compatibility within the Volkswagen Group
Skoda shares many engines and electronic systems with Volkswagen, Audi and SEAT. As a result, the same Bosch or VAG number may be listed for several makes. You can also browse our Volkswagen ECU engine controllers, Audi ECU engine controllers and SEAT ECU engine controllers.
A shared housing or ECU family does not automatically make two controllers interchangeable. Compatibility should be confirmed using the complete VAG OEM number, manufacturer number, hardware revision and software calibration.
How to select the correct Skoda ECU
The most reliable starting point is the complete label on the original engine controller. The vehicle model, production year, engine capacity and power output alone are not enough because multiple controller versions may have been installed in the same model.
Before ordering, compare:
- the complete Skoda or VAG OEM part number,
- the Bosch or other manufacturer number,
- the ECU family, such as EDC16U1, EDC17C46, MED17.5.5 or ME7.5,
- hardware and software versions,
- engine code, capacity, power output and fuel type,
- emissions standard and DPF configuration,
- manual or automatic gearbox specification,
- vehicle equipment and market version.
The VIN helps identify the vehicle, but it does not replace the numbers printed on the original ECU. If the old controller has been replaced previously, checking its software and vehicle application may also be necessary.
Skoda ECU IMMO OFF – what does it mean?
IMMO OFF means that the immobiliser function has been disabled in a compatible engine controller. This can allow the engine to start without the standard ECU-to-immobiliser adaptation procedure.
IMMO OFF does not make an incorrectly selected controller compatible. The replacement ECU must still match the engine, hardware and software requirements. Depending on the vehicle and preparation method, an immobiliser warning or related fault code may remain in the instrument cluster or another module even though the engine starts and operates correctly.
Not every Skoda ECU supports the same IMMO OFF solution. Always check the preparation stated on the individual product page.
Plug & Play and cloned Skoda ECUs
A Plug & Play Skoda ECU is prepared for installation with a reduced amount of work required in the vehicle. Its exact preparation may involve IMMO OFF, transferred data or programming performed for a particular application. Refer to the individual product description to see what information or original parts must be supplied.
ECU cloning involves transferring compatible data from the old controller to a suitable replacement. Depending on the ECU type and the condition of the original module, this may preserve the immobiliser information, VIN, software and vehicle configuration.
Cloning is possible only when the necessary memory data can be read from the damaged controller and the donor ECU is technically compatible.
VIRGIN Skoda ECU and vehicle adaptation
A VIRGIN ECU has been cleared of the previous vehicle’s immobiliser identity and selected personalisation data. It normally requires adaptation to the receiving vehicle using suitable diagnostic or programming equipment.
Depending on the Skoda model and ECU generation, adaptation may require professional VAG diagnostic tools and access to the necessary security data. VCDS can perform selected coding and adaptation procedures, but it cannot universally replace every programming, immobiliser or online function supported by ODIS and authorised systems.
Do not install a VIRGIN controller temporarily in another vehicle. Once adapted, it may acquire vehicle-specific data and no longer remain in the original VIRGIN state.
Common symptoms of a faulty Skoda ECU
- the engine does not start or starts intermittently,
- no diagnostic communication with the engine controller,
- the engine cuts out while driving,
- limp mode and reduced engine power,
- injector, ignition, boost-control or throttle faults,
- immobiliser or CAN communication errors,
- incorrect operation after water ingress or corrosion,
- damage following a short circuit, voltage surge or reversed battery connection,
- a no-start condition after interrupted ECU programming.
These symptoms do not automatically confirm ECU failure. Similar problems can be caused by damaged wiring, poor power or earth connections, blown fuses, faulty relays, sensors, actuators or CAN communication faults. The vehicle should be diagnosed properly before an engine controller is purchased.
ECU fault or Skoda ABS problem?
Communication and CAN faults may involve more than one control unit. Warning lamps, loss of traction-control functions or communication errors with the braking system may indicate an ABS or ESP module problem rather than an engine ECU fault.
If diagnostics identify a braking-system controller problem, browse the available Skoda ABS pumps and control modules. As with engine ECUs, ABS modules must be selected using complete part numbers and may require coding or configuration after installation.

Does a replacement Skoda ECU need identical part numbers?
The safest option is a controller with an identical Skoda or VAG OEM number and a matching manufacturer number. Some part numbers have approved replacements, but compatibility should be confirmed before purchase.
Will a used Skoda ECU work after it is connected?
An ordinary used controller normally retains the immobiliser and configuration data of its previous vehicle. It may need to be cloned, reset to VIRGIN, adapted to the vehicle or prepared as IMMO OFF before the engine can start.
What does IMMO OFF mean on a Skoda ECU?
IMMO OFF means that the immobiliser function has been disabled inside a compatible engine controller. Standard immobiliser synchronisation may therefore not be required, although the ECU must still have the correct hardware and software.
Can an ECU from a Volkswagen, Audi or SEAT fit a Skoda?
