Škoda engine control units – IMMO OFF

This category contains tested Bosch engine ECUs for the Škoda Octavia and other models with 1.9 TDI, 1.4 TSI, 1.8T and 2.0 TDI engines. The units currently on offer are prepared as IMMO OFF or IMMO OFF Plug & Play – after fitting a compatible ECU there is no need to programme the immobiliser.

How to choose an engine ECU for a Škoda?

  • the full VAG number, e.g. 03G906016MJ – with all letters at the end,
  • the Bosch number and the ECU family, e.g. EDC16U1, MED17.5.5 or ME7.5,
  • engine code, capacity and power, gearbox and emission standard.

Model, year and engine size alone are not enough – one version of a car could use different ECUs and software. Always check 03G906016MJ together with the Bosch number 0281014721. The VIN helps, but does not replace the numbers on the label.

What does IMMO OFF Plug & Play mean?

In IMMO OFF ECUs the immobiliser start-blocking function is disabled. A compatible ECU starts the engine without the usual coding to the immobiliser and keys – there is no need to transfer data from the old module or programme the immobiliser in the Škoda.

  • part numbers, hardware version and software must still match your old ECU,
  • in some cars the immobiliser warning light or a stored fault may remain – if the engine runs correctly, this does not mean the ECU is faulty,
  • depending on the version, extra steps may be needed, e.g. equipment or injector coding and clearing fault codes.

Before you replace the ECU

A no-start, no diagnostic communication, limp mode or immobiliser faults do not always mean a faulty ECU. Check power and earth connections, fuses, relays, the wiring loom and connectors, and CAN communication – an undetected wiring fault or a shorted actuator can damage the next module.

Does an IMMO OFF ECU need programming? It does not need to be coded to the immobiliser. Depending on the car version, equipment or injector coding and clearing fault codes may be needed.
Does an ECU from an Audi or Volkswagen fit a Škoda? Only if the full VAG number, Bosch number, hardware version and software match. A shared platform alone is not enough.
Why is the immobiliser light on after fitting? In some cars it stays on after IMMO OFF. If the engine starts and runs correctly, the ECU is not faulty.
Is the VIN enough? No. The VIN helps identify the car, but the numbers on the old ECU label are decisive.
