How to choose a Jeep 3.0 CRD ECU?

There were dozens of ECU versions for the Jeep 3.0 CRD. Always compare both numbers – Bosch and Jeep/Mopar – including the letter suffix:

  • one Jeep number can come with several Bosch numbers – e.g. P05187330AA exists with 0281013646, 0281014080 and 0281014081,
  • one Bosch number can come with different Jeep number suffixes – e.g. 0281013647 with P05187332AA or P05187332AB,
  • the label may also show a short form, e.g. 330AA or 189AI – the end of the full number P05187330AA or P56044189AI.

Model, year and engine are not enough to choose the ECU. The VIN helps, but does not replace the numbers on the label.

VIRGIN ECU – what is needed after fitting?

A VIRGIN ECU has the previous vehicle's data (VIN, immobiliser) erased, so it can be assigned to the car like a new service unit. However, it is not Plug & Play – after fitting you need to:

  • programme the VIN and code the ECU to the immobiliser,
  • carry out the vehicle configuration and clear fault codes,
  • use a tool that supports Jeep, e.g. WiTECH, DRBIII on older vehicles, or an aftermarket device with immobiliser functions.

Before buying, make sure the workshop has the equipment for this procedure. Requirements for the Wrangler 2.8 CRD ECUs are given in the product description.

Before you replace the ECU

A no-start, no diagnostic communication, limp mode or immobiliser faults do not always mean a faulty ECU. Check power and earth connections, fuses, relays, the wiring loom and connectors, and CAN communication – an undetected wiring fault or a shorted actuator can damage the next module.

Testing, warranty and delivery

In many cases, the unit can be installed and used without any additional coding or adaptation.

      3. How do I choose the correct part for my vehicle?

      The most important step is to compare the part numbers found on your original unit. Pay special attention to the Bosch, Siemens, Magneti Marelli, Continental, or vehicle manufacturer's OEM part number. If you are unsure, simply send us a photo of your existing module or provide your vehicle's VIN, and our specialists will help you identify the correct part.
