Renault engine control units in stock
The engine control unit (ECU) manages injection, ignition on petrol engines, boost and communication with the immobiliser. A Renault ECU label usually carries two kinds of numbers: the Renault number (e.g. 8200391957, 8200666516, 237109184R) and the manufacturer number – Bosch (0281…), Magneti Marelli (IAW 5NR2… marking), Siemens/Continental (S1202…, A2C…).

How to choose a Renault engine control unit
Compare both numbers – Renault and manufacturer – with the label on your unit. The same Renault number appears with several Bosch numbers – e.g. 8200391957 with 0281011277, 0281012052 and 0281012200 – and on the Clio II 1.2 16V the shared number 8200181482 comes with different calibration numbers (8200229098, 8200262881, 8200285314). So the model and engine alone are not enough. The VIN helps confirm the vehicle version but does not replace the label numbers. If in doubt, send us a photo of the label.
VIRGIN, Plug & Play and programming
The preparation is stated for each product:
- VIRGIN Plug & Play – the immobiliser memory is cleared; after fitting, the unit pairs itself with the car’s immobiliser and key, with no data transfer from the old module,
- VIRGIN for programming – the unit is cleared, but after fitting it must be paired with the car using a diagnostic tool (immobiliser, VIN, configuration).
According to the product descriptions, the Bosch units for the Master and Trafic and the Magneti Marelli units for the Clio II are prepared as VIRGIN Plug & Play, while the Continental SID310 unit for the Clio 1.5 dCi needs programming after fitting.
Example Renault engine control units
Symptoms of a faulty engine control unit
- the engine does not start although the starter and fuel supply work,
- no communication with the engine control unit in diagnostics,
- limp mode, sudden stalling or injection faults with no faulty sensors,
- traces of moisture or corrosion on the connector or the housing.
Power supply, earths, fuses, relays, wiring and the immobiliser can cause similar symptoms – so run diagnostics before you buy. Transmission control units for Renault are in the Renault transmission control units category, and ABS pumps in Renault ABS pumps. Some Trafic and Master units also fit the Opel Vivaro and Movano – see Opel engine control units.
Testing, warranty and delivery
Every control unit is checked before dispatch on a test bench – connected to power and diagnostic tools. The warranty period and terms are given in each product description. Before ordering you can check delivery times and costs, payment methods and our returns and complaints policy.
