The model list does not limit the match either way – what matters is that the Bosch number 0281018302 and the Audi number 4L2910401C match the label on your ECU. The neighbouring number 0281018301 (4L2910401B) is also an EDC17 but with different software, so it cannot replace this unit. Earlier Q7 3.0 TDI models with EDC16CP34 (e.g. 0281013691) use a different ECU type.
Preparation and installation
Important on EDC17: the IMMO OFF version lets the Q7 start without programming, but the immobiliser fault is stored permanently. A cluster with the large screen shows the message SAFE; the smaller one shows no message. The solution is an immobiliser adaptation at a workshop or our data cloning from your current ECU, at no extra cost. Optional paid services: DPF OFF, EGR OFF, FLAPS OFF and chip tuning.
Symptoms of a failed ECU in the Q7
In the Q7 3.0 TDI the ECU sits under the scuttle panel; when the drains block, water collects there. The most common symptoms:
- no communication with the ECU during diagnostics
- the engine stalls when warm or after contact with moisture
- corrosion on the pins or the circuit board
