Preparation and installation
The 0281018301 unit is prepared as IMMO OFF and the engine starts without programming. On EDC17, however, an immobiliser fault remains stored and cannot be cleared. In a Q7 with the large-display instrument cluster the message SAFE appears; with the smaller display there is no message. If you want the car to run without this fault, have a workshop carry out an immobiliser adaptation or order data cloning from your old ECU (included in the price). Symptoms of a failed ECU in the Q7
In the Q7 3.0 TDI the ECU sits under the scuttle panel; when the drains block, water collects there. The most common symptoms:
- the engine cranks but does not start
- CAN bus faults and errors in several modules at once
- corrosion on the pins or the circuit board
