The model list does not limit the match either way – what matters is that the Bosch number 0281015868 and the Audi number 4L1910401D match the label on your ECU. The neighbouring number 0281014174 (4L0910401G) is also an EDC17 but with different software, so it cannot replace this unit. Earlier Q7 3.0 TDI models with EDC16CP34 (e.g. 0281013691) use a different ECU type.
Preparation and installation
The engine will start straight after installation, because the unit is IMMO OFF. On EDC17, though, an immobiliser fault stays in memory and cannot be cleared; a cluster with the large display then shows SAFE, the smaller one shows nothing. Want the car without this fault? Symptoms of a failed ECU in the Q7
A typical cause of failure in the Q7 is water from the scuttle area where the ECU is mounted. Signs of damage include:
- the engine cranks but does not start
- the radiator fans run constantly with the ignition on
- corrosion on the pins or the circuit board
